We say, "Home sweet home" and can't even imagine that this very home might contain objects that make us age faster. The quicker you find and neutralize these items, the better your chances are that you will be able to enjoy your youthful body and smooth skin for a long time.
Bhaskar Health found the main household items that you might not know are damaging to your youthfulness.
9. Central heating and air conditioners
The colder the air outside is, the less moisture it's capable to retain. When it gets cold inside, the air heats, but the water vapor quantity doesn't increase. That's how the air in a house becomes dry. And our skin and mucous membranes are the first to suffer. Our face and body become very sensitive, start to itch, and could start to peel. This sets you on your way to dull skin and wrinkles.
Solution: use air humidifiers, buy some ultra-moisturizing creams, and always have a thermal water spray with you.
8. Soap
The 21st century, is a century of hygiene. People are just crazy about keeping their bodies smooth, clean, and smelling nice. But everyday skin cleansing with cleaning products can cause the skin's natural defensive barrier to wash off. This barrier saves us from bacteria and even prevents premature skin aging.
Solution: always read the ingredient labels of your soap or shower gel. And, it's still recommended to avoid everyday washing with cleansers.
7. Pillows
Most people choose cotton or flax linen because they're pretty cheap, they don't slide, and they're easy to wash.
But pillowcases made of these materials can be bad for people who care about their appearance. First, this is mainly for people who like to sleep on their side or stomach. Thick cotton can increase the risk of creases on the skin, that will turn into wrinkles later. Also, these materials are a good environment for bacteria to grow.
Solution: replace cotton with silk. Silk is more expensive but it has a lot of advantages: it's durable, it doesn't cause creases in the skin because it's smooth, and it prevents bacterial growth.
6. Smartphones and computers
And, also, there is research claiming that the screen's blue light (High Energy Visiblelight) can be as harmful as UVA and UVB rays.
Solution: if there is no way to reduce the time you spend in front of the computer, you could install a special anti-blue light screen protector. There are also protective creams you can use that are called HEV creams.
5. Open windows
Recently, scientists found a direct correlation between air pollution and premature aging. But industrial facilities aren't the only reason for air pollution. Life in big cities, near highways, neighbors that smoke, and many other facts can cause environment pollution.
Solution: if your apartment or workplace is too close to the source of pollution, try to avoid opening your windows. Nowadays, you can get a device to clean your indoor air that removes pollution particles and even helps control the humidity level.
4. Bras
Firm breasts are associated with youth. There's a theory that bras fight against gravity and keep breasts perky. But there is not any scientific justification to this theory. There is also an opposite theory that says that bras make chest muscles weak. And it's been proven. Specialists are sure that only women with certain features (for example, big mammary glands) have to wear a bra to feel comfortable.
Solution: wear a bra only if necessary or avoid wearing one at all.
3. Sugar
As we all know, sugar provokes excess weight gain. But the latest research shows that it also causes premature aging and skin inflammation. Inside an organism, sugar starts producing molecules that attack the collagen and elastin that are responsible for beautiful and smooth skin.
Solution: stop consuming sugar, replace it with honey, stevia, maple, agave, or topinambur syrup.
2. Processed meat products
Meat products (such as sausages and hamburgers) contain a lot of fats and different supplements: for example, phosphorus and sulfites. These chemicals worsen the skin's condition and speed up the body's aging process.
Solution: reduce the consumption of this food.
1. Flushing toilets
Unfortunately, not everyone knows that there are several rules to be mindful of when flushing the toilet. Of course, we all know that it's important to keep the toilet area clean and wash our hands. But many people don't know that there is a correct flushing method. And if we flush the toilet with the lid up, bacteria and pathogenic microorganisms spray into the air... and can land on hair, clothes, and skin.
Solution: lower the lid each time before you flush.
